Halitosis

You’re sitting in the waiting room for the chance of scoring your dream job. You cup your hand to your mouth and exhale to check your breath. It’s anything but fresh. You slide in a strip of gum. Fifteen minutes after chewing you realize that the stench is back. It is still coming from your mouth. You have halitosis – a case of bad breath. Identifying the cause is the first step in treating this avoidable situation.
Why did I have to have two slices of garlic bread?
All of the food you eat is broken down in your mouth and is absorbed into your bloodstream. Soon, they are carried to your lungs and you’re eventually breathing the odor through your mouth. Foods with strong odors hold a tough battle against brushing, flossing, and even mouthwash. The smell will not completely disappear until it is gone out of your body. So don’t be too disappointed when you spend your nights brushing your tongue and swishing mouthwash back and forth in your mouth more than once to get rid of the garlic bread that you heavily munched on for lunch.
Wait, I had garlic two days ago and I did have my share of mouthwash this morning.
We have established that the garlic has left your bloodstream and ultimately your body. However, if you don’t floss and brush your teeth at least daily, the particles of food remain in your mouth. They hide in crevices of your teeth and sometimes even the roof of your mouth. This leads to bacterial growth in between your teeth and gums, and even on your tongue which cause bad breath due to decay. Also, if you wear retainers or dentures, your number one priority is to make sure that they’re thoroughly clean. Poor dental care includes not sanitizing your dentures properly.
But I do all of those things!
Maybe the cure is not what you do, but rather what you don’t do. Using tobacco products such as cigars, cigarettes, and chewing tobacco are fair indicators that place your dental health at risk. Tobacco users are at an increased risk for the following: periodontal disease, a loss of taste abilities, or/and, irritated gums.
I also don’t smoke.
If you can’t pinpoint where the smell is coming from, track down your local Anaheim dentist for an appointment. Since each individual experience symptoms differently, it is smart to consult your family dentist to figure out whether or not the problem is serious. Some diseases and illnesses may cause halitosis. Here are some to be aware of: respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia or bronchitis, chronic sinus infections, postnasal drip, diabetes, chronic acid reflux, and liver or kidney problems.
Someone needs to make an appointment with their local dentist.
Socially, the affects of bad breath can tarnish someone’s image. Since fragrance has a sharp ability to produce emotional responses, bad breath can lower a person’s self image. If you’re planning on going to a job interview with bad breath, your chances for future employment will be slimmer than you expect.

The Earlier the Better

Early dental treatment as a child is essential to good oral hygiene throughout adulthood. It is crucial to provide care for primary teeth because problems can lead to severe damage with permanent teeth. Decayed baby teeth can and do cause adult permanent teeth to not develop properly therefore making them prone to infection. It is recommended to have children first visit the dentist when they are one year of age so that dental care and instruction can take place early. Children develop tooth decay with baby bottles when they are exposed to liquids containing sugar. Many children fall asleep with their bottles which contain sugars as well as milk, and these cause decay. The child falls asleep with their bottle and their teeth are not cleaned to remove any plaque which would sit on the teeth otherwise. Early dental care is extremely important and it is now required for children entering kindergarten to have regular check ups and treatment done in order for them to enroll into a public school. Fluoride treatment is also an option for young children and it benefits the teeth by providing strength for the tooth and help fight cavities. Our children dentist at 7 Day Dental Anaheim-Lincoln helps take care of your children dental needs.

Do not let Fear and Anxiety Keep You from Getting Needed Dental Treatment!

For many of us, fear is the number one offender. It fills us with dread, affects us negatively both emotionally and physically, and we sometimes make decisions that are fear-based which we regret later. Fear can arise out of our perceptions, and let’s face it: a lot of us fear going to the dentist because we feel the experience is going to be a painful and stressful one. This is especially true with children. For them and their parents, the ordeal of a visit to the dentist can keep them from getting the treatment they need. Even oral sedation, or “numbing,” a method proven effective for preventing pain, can work better on some than others, and in some cases, it may not work at all. At 7 Day Dental Anaheim-Lincoln, we are committed to painless dentistry and we do not want your children or you to avoid needed dental treatment because you fear pain. This is why we offer general anesthesia. Our board-certified anesthesiologists use an IV, or intravenous drip, which provides a safe, deep sedation, or sleep, to children and adults alike. Employing the same level of professional experience and type of equipment found in hospitals and surgery centers, our anesthesiologists carefully administer and regulate IV sedation for each patient, individually based on each one’s medical condition and the length of the procedure. There are few side effects, and patients can go home soon after. By literally sleeping through the entire dental procedure, patients not only avoid pain and discomfort, but also the stress and anxiety of hearing drills, feeling pressures, and simply being aware of the experience is eliminated. This is especially beneficial to children, who usually will not remember their dental treatment, and consequentially will have less dread seeing the dentist as they grow up. To illustrate this point, consider Johnny, a cute and energetic four-year old patient of ours. Like most children his age, Johnny enjoys candy and sodas. In Johnny’s case, it resulted in some pretty severe cavities in three of his front teeth. He came to 7 Day Dental several times to have his teeth treated, but regardless of how hard his dentist and his parents tried to calm and reassure Johnny, he would not allow the dentist to treat his teeth. He would squirm, kick, yell, and cry. We tried oral sedation, but this did not work for Johnny. When the decision was made to use IV sedation, however, the ordeal was over. While Johnny slept comfortably, his dentist repaired all three of his teeth in under an hour. Today, Johnny has a beautiful smile, and he doesn’t remember the experience at all. His parents are grateful for that smile, and we at 7 Day Dental Anaheim-Lincoln are too, and a little proud that we could help. As this true story demonstrates, it is possible to have a stress-free, even comfortable visit to the dentist if you decide that you or your child would rather sleep during the entire affair. Children often do not recall the experience, and are less inclined to be fearful of the dentist. Because you or your child is relaxed and asleep, the dentist can also often complete all of the planned treatment at one time, allowing you to awaken with a beautiful smile!

Dental Lasers

Dental lasers are now the cutting-edge technology of the 21st century. Lasers should be used in every dental office as part of the care standard for periodontal patients. Mechanical instrumentation, such as ultrasonic scaling and hand scaling, is not as effective in treating gum disease as dental lasers. Instrumentation can leave bacterial smear layer in the periodontal pocket.

According to the Institute for Advanced Dental Technologies, the purpose of this adjunctive laser procedure is to remove diseased or inflamed soft tissue in the periodontal pocket and to improve clinical indices, including gingival index, gingival bleeding index, probe depth, attachment loss and tooth mobility.

Baby Bottle Syndrome

Baby Bottle Syndrome, also known as Early Childhood Caries, is the decay  of baby teeth in an infant or child from frequent exposure, for long periods of time, to liquids containing sugars. The upper front teeth are most commonly affected.

Common sources of liquids high in sugars are:

  1. 1. A bottle containing formula, milk, soda, or juice
  2. 2. A pacifier dipped in honey
  3. 3. Breast milk

When a baby falls asleep while nursing a bottle or breast feeding, the sugary liquid pools around the front teeth.

Orthodontics

Everyone wants to have a beautiful and radiant smile, and this can be accomplished by getting braces.  The best gift a parent can give to their child is the gift of a wonderful smile.  A beautiful smile is one that is both beautiful aesthetically and is also healthy.  An orthodontist can enhance the smile of any person at any age but the preferred age is between 7 or 8 to the early teen years. The reasoning behind this particular age group is because the jaw bone is still not completely developed making it easier and less painful to treat the patient.

Pediatric Dentistry

A PEDIATRIC DENTIST is a dentist that has received additional education and training within the field of dentistry for children from infancy to teen years.  A pediatric dentist is educated on different methods of approaching the patient’s dental treatment and is able to work with the patient to lessen any fears they may have.  Since the patient is being educated from a young age, they are able to be guided in the right direction and have fewer complications as an adult.  Dr Rabin Marfatia  is our practicing pediatric dentist at 7 Day Dental Anaheim  and he is outstanding when dealing with young children.  Dr Marfatia’s techniques are exceptional and he is able to  educate his young patients and their parents to actively prevent oral decay.

Extraction Indications

Wisdom teeth are usually extracted for two reasons which entail either already impacted teeth or teeth that could potentially become hazardous if not extracted.  Potential complications of properly grown-in wisdom teeth include infections which are caused by food particles that become trapped in the jaw are behind the wisdom teeth.  With this scenario brushing and flossing will be difficult to do and will be inadequate.  Infections will begin to be more frequent and will increase in pain which can result in major medical complications and danger.  Wisdom teeth also need to be removed when misalignment occurs which causes the teeth to rub against the tongue and cheek causing frequent infection and irritation.  Malocclusion occurs causing crowding in the mouth and complications with remaining teeth.

Gum Disease – Silent But Deadly

Many people are under the misconception that they will never experience gum disease and they are not aware gum disease has been known to cause diabetes, heart attacks, and strokes. Unbeknownst to them, these people may be at risk of developing such a disease, but hardly ever take the time to visit a dentist for to receive a check-up. Finding the time to do so may be difficult, especially for those who find themselves overloaded with work and/or children; however, by making dental hygiene a priority, people can avoid various oral diseases and thus improve their overall health.
